Workbook Support - Sample Maps
Fulfill
Customer Request for New Cable TV Service
When a large, cross-functional process is first diagrammed,
the resulting process map may be quite large…for example, maps 4 feet
long by 2 feet wide are common. If you want to distribute a large process
map on the web
or company intranet, you'll need views of the map that readers can view one
screen at a time.
The drilldown map consists of a summary page that represents the entire process
and separate, one-screen maps for each sub-process. The reader can see the
overall process scope and at the same time drilldown to see the detail involved
in each sub-process.
Navigation
To navigate among the screens, click on the shaded,
dotted-line sub-process boxes, the INPUT FROM text blocks and the OUTPUT
TO text blocks.
Sub-process 11: Activate Voice + Data Service
This drilldown map represents a single sub-process
in a very large cross-functional process entitled, "Fulfill Customer Request for New Voice + Data Service." The
Sub-Process 11 maps illustrate the level of detail that may be shown using
the drilldown technique.
The first page is a summary of Subprocess 11, which itself consists of five
sub-processes. When we drill down to see Sub-Process 11.4, we see that it
in turn has two lower-level sub-processes. Sub-Process 11.4.3 is at the job-instruction
level and is suitable for use as a training tool.
Navigation
Navigation has been partially implemented on this map because only the cover
page and two sub-processes are included in the example. To navigate among
the screens, follow the navigation directions provided on the screen.
The maps on this page illustrate the concepts described in the Swimlane Process Mapping workbook
